The best restaurants in Enmore
This little enclave punches well above its weight on the eats front.
Sandwiched between Newtown and Marrickville, Enmore has long been overshadowed by vibrant King Street up the road. No more. Main drag Enmore Road has become the cool sibling – in fact, it's been crowned the 17th coolest neighbourhood in the whole world in Time Out Global's annual round-up.
And it's only going to get cooler, considering the fact it's been designated as by council as a ‘special entertainment precinct’, to make sure the revelry remains undisturbed by noise complaints.
The relaxed rules help the area’s venues skip bureaucratic hoop-jumping – they can host entertainment without council approval, extend trading hours, and offer late-night footpath dining.
Enmore is packed with excellent places to eat, whether it’s sourdough doughnuts at Comeco Foods, locally famous gelato at Cow and the Moon or charcoal chicken pita pockets at Cairo Takeaway.
During the day, there are vintage and repurposed fashion and antiques stores to browse, crystal shops and record stores to wander through, and plenty of street art decorating the walls. It’s where the city’s hospo workers come to live, work and play, so you’ll find the best natural wines in the bottle shops, and everyone’s creative and weird – just the way we like it.
