American magazine Travel+Leisure called it one of the world’s 16 most beautiful railway stations. We won’t dispute that. The exterior will remind you of 19th century Parisian architecture, but it’s the interiors that will knock you out: the station lobby walls are covered with 20,000 tiles, which took painter Jorge Colaço 11 years to complete. The tiles portray scenes of Portuguese history, daily life and the evolution of transportation. You can also catch a train to visit some nearby towns, such as Miramar (and its beautiful beaches and mansions), Braga or Guimarães.
